The Europa League is back and, while it may not carry the same global spotlight as the Champions League, it remains one of the best stages for emerging talents to announce themselves. The 2026/27 edition already looks packed with players capable of producing moments that shift the narrative of the competition — and of their own careers.
Here are five players worth watching closely this season.
Kenan Yildiz – Juventus
Juventus successfully fended off reported interest from Arsenal for Kenan Yildiz in the summer, making it clear the 21-year-old was not for sale. That decision looks increasingly justified. The Turkey international has developed into one of Serie A’s most exciting young attackers since arriving in Turin.
Last season he claimed the league’s Rising Star of the Season award after recording 10 goals and six assists. Comfortable operating as a creative No.10 or drifting into wider areas, Yildiz carries the weight of Juventus history every time he pulls on the famous number ten shirt once worn by Platini, Baggio and Del Piero.
A first European trophy in three decades remains the club’s target. Yildiz has the quality and temperament to play a central role in that pursuit.
Christian Kofane – Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen continue to produce and develop high-ceiling attackers, and Christian Kofane sits high on that list. The forward scored seven times in an impressive first full season with the club and has carried that momentum into the new campaign, already netting three goals in his first five appearances.
Several major European clubs are monitoring his progress. Kofane’s combination of movement, finishing and physical presence makes him a natural fit for the transition-heavy style Leverkusen favour. The Europa League offers him a bigger stage to accelerate his development and, potentially, force a bigger move.
Tyler Morton – Lyon
Tyler Morton left Liverpool last summer after growing frustrated with limited first-team opportunities. The decision to head to Lyon has already paid dividends. In his first season in Ligue 1 the 23-year-old midfielder made 43 appearances and ranked among the top 10 midfielders in the division for through passes and short-pass completion rate.
Premier League clubs continue to track him. Morton’s ability to progress the ball under pressure and dictate tempo from deep positions gives Lyon a reliable platform in midfield. European nights should only increase his visibility.
Fisnik Asllani – Hoffenheim
Fisnik Asllani was close to a summer move to RB Leipzig before the deal collapsed over medical concerns. The 24-year-old remained at Hoffenheim and will now look to use the Europa League as a launchpad for the next stage of his career.
Last season he contributed 10 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga, helping the club finish fifth. Intelligent movement in the final third and a willingness to drop deep and link play make him a versatile forward threat. Strong performances in Europe could reopen doors that closed in the summer.
Alex Scott – Bournemouth
Bournemouth rejected a £64 million offer from Chelsea for Alex Scott in the summer, choosing instead to keep their core together for a first-ever European campaign. The midfielder’s stock continues to rise. Several top Premier League sides remain interested, and he is expected to feature for England before the end of the season.
Scott’s press resistance, ability to receive in tight spaces and progressive passing make him ideally suited to European competition. For a Bournemouth side stepping onto a new stage, his composure and intelligence in midfield will be vital.
The Europa League has long served as a proving ground for players on the rise. This season’s group contains several who already look ready to take the next step. How they perform under the lights between September and May could shape transfer windows and national-team selections for years to come.
